BC RESURECT is please report on our second, successful, face-to-face meeting of the CanSAVE investigators and international scientific collaborators. The CanSAVE Strategic Symposium took place at UBC Robson Square in Vancouver on April 23 and 24, 2025.

CanSAVE is grounded in research programs with the most significant potential to increase SCA survival and improve the quality of life after cardiac arrest across three critically interconnected themes: Recognition (Wearable Biosensors, Optimized 9-1-1 Recognition), Response ( Community Responder Programs), and Recovery from SCA ( Neurological protection and Survivorship).

The small invitation-only Symposium was a unique opportunity for CanSAVE research leads to harness the expertise of participants to help answer critical questions, focus on the next steps, and build collaborative relationships to accelerate the research. Invited participants included all CanSAVE members ( BC, ON, AB) , representatives from BC Emergency Health Services, the Heart and Stroke resuscitation team, persons with lived experience (survivors and family members), international experts with expertise in each of the CanSAVE research programs, and defibrillator manufacturer representatives. Providence Research highlights BC RESURECT: Celebrating 20 years of advancing resuscitation science

For over two decades, BC RESURECT has brought together clinicians, scientists, and first responders to develop research strategies to improve survival from cardiac arrest in Canada. A Clinical Academic Research Group affiliated with Providence Research and the University of British Columbia (UBC), BC RESURECT advances resuscitation science through clinical trials, observational studies, surveillance, quality improvement initiatives, and knowledge translation.

Co-directed by Drs. Jim Christenson and Brian Grunau, BC RESURECT is a leader in its field, contributing to national and international treatment guidelines. The group is a key contributor to initiatives like the Canadian Resuscitation Outcomes Consortium (CanROC) and Canadians Saving Arrest Victims Everywhere (CanSAVE), which aim to transform cardiac arrest response systems and improve survival rates nationwide.
