Helen Connolly

Helen is a research manager for BC RESURECT. She has been involved in coordinating clinical trials since 1999. She currently manages the pre-hospital Cardiac Arrest registry, The PulsePoint Study, The EpiDOSE study and all other studies that involve the registry database Prior to transitioning to research she was an RN working in St. Paul’s Emergency Department.

Scott Haig

Scott has been a Primary Care Paramedic with BC Emergency Health Services for 7 years. His professional interests are focused on prehospital medicine, project management, paramedic research and collaborative team development. He holds a paramedic research position with Providence Health Research Institute under Dr Brian Grunau working on research projects involving COVID-19 and Out of Hospital Cardiac Arrests. Scott is passionate about leadership, quality improvement and change management. He is heavily involved in provincial and national research initiatives in addition to other special projects with the ambulance service. Scott is a strong proponent of prehospital research and evidence-based practice development. Outside of work Scott is a new father, avid runner and student at the University of British Columbia.

Christi Sawyer

Dr. Lovepreet Singh

Dr. Singh is Doctor of General Medicine from India and working to obtain licence to practice in Canada. He has a master’s degree in Global Health from Texas and has worked on research projects in infectious diseases, dermatology, and geriatrics. In addition to his academic career, he is am passionate about writing poetry and I publishing on his WordPress blog.

Uda Walker

Uda is the Research Manager and Grant Administrator for BC RESURECT and the CanSAVE group. She has a background in program evaluation and managing impact studies in STEM education. She is interested in research that is committed to seeking out gaps in care and implementing cutting-edge therapies in communities where research and corresponding care are currently inequitable.

BCEHS /BC RESURECT Research Champions

Zach Clarkson

Zach joined the BC Resurrect Team in early 2025 and serves as one of the research champions for the Interior region, with a focus on the North Okanagan and Shuswap. He has been a BCEHS paramedic for 13 years, beginning his career in Oliver before transferring to Vancouver and completing first his ACP and then CCP training. Zach worked as one of the critical care paramedics on the Infant Transport Team before accepting a rural ACP PRU position in Salmon Arm at the end of 2022. Zach’s interest in research stems from the desire to not only better patient outcomes, but also further expand the role of paramedics in every facet of emergency and prehospital medicine.  Zach can be reached at zachary.clarkson@bcehs.ca

Ashleah McDonald

Ashleah is a Primary Care Paramedic with BC Ambulance Service in Surrey, British Columbia, and a research assistant with BC RESURECT. She earned a Bachelor of Science in Biology from Kent State University, where she also conducted lab work with the Electrophysiological Neuroscience Laboratory of Kent (ENLoK). She later completed her Primary Care Paramedic training at the Justice Institute of BC.

Ashleah’s professional interests lie at the intersection of prehospital medicine, neuroscience, and education. Current projects focus on advancing research within emergency medical services, aligning clinical practice with emerging evidence, and strengthening the connection between research and prehospital guidelines.

Sam Salmanovitch

Sam is a Primary Care Paramedic with BC Emergency Health Services and Research Assistant with Providence Health. He completed a Bachelor of Science in Human Kinetics at the University of Guelph, before moving to Victoria and beginning his career in prehospital care. In his role with Providence Health, Sam focuses on implementing and advocating for prehospital research within BCEHS and has a particular interest in advancing evidence-based paramedic practice. Outside of work, Sam enjoys cycling and exploring the many hikes in the area.

Janessa Tom

Janessa Tom is a Program Coordinator and EMR with BC Emergency Health Services and has been working with BC RESURECT since 2022. She completed a Bachelor of Science in microbiology and French language at the University of British Columbia and a Master of Public Health at the University of Saskatchewan, where she focused her studies on health policy and healthcare systems management. Outside of work, Janessa volunteers with Girl Guides as a unit leader and spends most evenings in the dance studio training or rehearsing for performances.
